General Sportwear Co., Inc. was Founded in 1927 by Louis Rosenstock in
Ellenville, New York. In 1951, Louis opened the first of
eight
factories in North Carolina.
General's initial product line included knit tops,
jackets, and pants. Eventually, General dropped its tops
and outerwear business and concentrated on woven
bottoms. When General's private brand business
experienced a tremendous growth in the late 80's, it
became necessary to shift production outside of the
United States in order to stay competitive. After
experimenting in Mexico and several countries throughout
the Caribbean, General decided to open its own factory
in Central America. |

In 1993, General opened Fivaro, a 30,000 ft2 sewing factory in
Honduras. Over the next 5 years, sewing was expanded,
and a cutting room and modern laundry were added. Today,
Fivaro is 140,000 ft2 and employees over 800
people. In January of 2007, General opened Sincotex, a
100,000 ft2 cut and sew facility in Tipitapa,
Nicaragua, which employees over 800 people.
The two factories together combine for 240,000
ft2 and employee over 1600 people.
In addition to Fivaro and Sincotex, General
sources product all over the world. |
Although the company no longer maintains any production in the United
States, General still owns and operates two distribution
centers, totaling 235,000 ft2, in North
Carolina. General remains based out of Ellenville, New
York, and its showroom is located in the heart of the
Garment District, in New York City. |
General Sportwear is still owned and managed by the Rosenstock family.
Our commitment to quality, price, delivery, and service
is just as strong today as it was over 80 years ago. |
